Responsible volunteering in Zimbabwe

We are volunteer in Zimbabwe specialists. The country has a unique magic which compels people to come back time and time again, and volunteering in Zimbabwe is a wonderful experience.

Zimbabwe is home to a rich cultural heritage, wonderful landscapes and some of the best wildlife viewing in Africa. We have a wealth of first-hand knowledge about off-the-beaten-track destinations, a host of local contacts, and a passion for showing Zimbabwe to the world. Whether you want to help endangered wildlife, work to rehabilitate small animals, horse ride through the bush or empower local communities, our varied opportunities to volunteer in Zimbabwe means we have something for everyone.

About Volunteering in Zimbabwe

Volunteer projects in Zimbabwe

Join a unique conservation volunteer project based on a family-run private conservancy. The project is dedicated to the long-term protection of African wildlife, focusing on the endangered black rhino. Volunteers play a vital role in securing the future of these iconic animals and undertake a combination of rhino and elephant conservation work and community empowerment projects.

A unique horse riding volunteer programme, combining horse riding safaris, anti-poaching patrols and horseback game counts. Live on a family-run wildlife conservancy, home to the endangered black rhinos, white rhinos and elephants. Horse riding volunteers contribute to important conservation work around the conservancy and also participate in community engagement projects.

Volunteer at Zimbabwe’s only wildlife sanctuary dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of primates, the often-overlooked victims of the human-wildlife conflict. Gain animal care experience with a variety of wildlife, with one goal in mind – to support vulnerable animals and work towards their eventual safe release.

Combine rhino and elephant conservation on a 10,000 acre private conservancy with primate care at Zimbabwe’s only dedicated primate rehabilitation and release facility. Experience daily conservancy life in the heart of Zimbabwe’s bushveld, and volunteer in a small sanctuary focused on animal care and release.

Explore 50,000 acres of African wilderness on our Horse Riding Eco-Safari. Join daily horseback safaris, spot wildlife, work in the stables and experience ranch life at your own pace. Suitable for riders of all levels, this is your chance to discover the soul of Africa on horseback and experience a working holiday with a difference – one that has family at its heart.

If you’re a non-rider, you are also welcome to come and help with other activities around the farm and reconnect with the land, wildlife and other people.

Immerse yourself in the heart of Zimbabwe and have an in-depth wildlife experience. You will gain a deep understanding and appreciation for the natural environment and gain theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The majority of your time is spent outdoors, learning about the intricate and wonderful relationships between each element in an ecosystem. You will also have focused classroom sessions and lectures, undertake basic weapons handling, learn survival skills and gain a Wilderness First Aid certificate.

Local community projects help to support grass-roots community development and action on a small, focused scale. Volunteers help build strong communities through long-term livelihood development, water aid, education and healthcare projects. Support local staff in the delivery of sustainable poverty alleviation solutions to marginalised communities living in a harsh environment.

Combine conservation volunteering with rhinos and elephants on a private conservancy, with community outreach work in marginalised rural communities in Victoria Falls. Through this combination project you will experience two very different regions of Zimbabwe, and learn about the relationship between wildlife conservation and community engagement.

As Zimbabwe specialists, we have developed projects with local organisations which are perfect for families who want to volunteer together. Family volunteers can choose to either learn about Africa’s most iconic species, including rhinos and elephants, or get involved with hands-on animal care. On our Horse Riding Eco-Safari Program, families can volunteer and ride together, or non-riders can participate in other activities. All our family wildlife volunteer programs include a community element, where children will learn and experience a very different way of life.
