As if a brand new baby rhino wasn’t enough excitement for one day, we are also very proud to be offering volunteers a once-in-lifetime opportunity to get involved with a rhino collaring operation.
OPERATION DATES: Friday September 13th – Sunday 15th 2019
Our partners in Zimbabwe on the Rhino & Elephant Conservation Programme have five adult rhino (three white and two black) who form the core of their breeding herd of rhinos, two juveniles (both black) and two babies (one white and one black). The project are dedicated to the protection of these amazing and endangered animals, and have made the decision to collar each of the adults. Collaring will enable their anti-poaching staff to better locate and track the rhino, plus allow the conservancy team to plot their movements and manage their browsing.
In September, the team will commence collaring every adult and juvenile rhino on Imire. Accompanied by highly experienced wildlife veterinarians, each rhino will be darted, tranquilized and fitted with a state-of-the-art GPS collar and tracking device.
Volunteers will be on the front lines of this operation, overseeing the procedures and monitoring the rhinos’ vital statistics and measurements. This is possibly the most exciting activity we have ever been able to offer our volunteers, and will be an unbelievable and unique 3 days, ones definitely not to be missed.
Even better it falls under our 15% off special period!
