😷 Vet Internship 🇲🇼
Mia 🇦🇹 - “I wanted to gain some experience in wildlife veterinary medicine, do some kind of volunteer project and travel to unique parts of Africa. I had so much fun during my stay. The internship was very well organized, the local vet included us vet students in every procedure he had planned and we got to learn a lot about caring for wildlife in general. All the staff members were so kind and friendly and I felt like I was “home” after just one day. The other volunteers I met during my time in Malawi quickly became good friends. We always had fun while working, we had fun game and movie nights, and we went on trips together. They made my time more than perfect."

💚 What were the most memorable experiences?
"Hyena capturing at night with wild hyenas and releasing animals back in the wild after treatment and hospitalisation."

👀 Do you have any advice for future participants?
"Working with wildlife is always very unpredictable and you never know which animals you are going to treat. Maybe you will have to deal with lions, elephants, cheetahs or rhinos, but most likely you will be treating monkeys, birds, antelopes, pangolins, hedgehogs or hyenas. Which is also amazing!"

"This was one of the greatest trips I undertook. It primed me in choosing volunteering for further travels.

"The sanctuary staff are very kind, involved, personal and supportive. It is a tight knit place, great to be a part of. Interacting with the baboons, being part of their group and going on bush walks is a special experience. They play, come sit next to you, groom you! During this, often a giraffe would show up out of curiosity. Feeding and touching the giraffe was incredible.

The hands on work with animals and the caring staff makes it a unique place."
